End of Year Celebrations!

What a year it’s been! Though our social medias have been a little quiet this year, we’ve been incredibly busy behind the scenes, making each and every one of our shade umbrellas by hand for clients right across Australia and South East Asia. The beginning of summer is always the busiest time for us as we ramp up-to Christmas, before giving our crew a well deserved break!

Aussie Made

All the timber for our umbrellas continues to be (sustainably) sourced hardwood from Vic Ash, before it is stained, sculpted, and constructed into one of our distinct Made in the Shade umbrellas.

Whenever possible, we will always source our hardware from local industry. In recent months we’ve said farewell to our local automotive manufacturing sector, which means less things will be built here in Australia. While we move towards a service economy, it’s vitally important that we do everything we can to help support local businesses and jobs.

We are the only true manufacturers of shade and market umbrellas in Australia, and it’s something we’re incredibly proud of. Our clients are always more than welcome to visit our factory in Seaford, Victoria, and see the manufacturing process for themselves.

McCrae in the Shade

We love nothing more than seeing photos sent in from our clients across the world! These pics came from a family in McCrae, not too far from us on the Mornington Peninsula. With their young ones keen to cool-off in the pool, our Made in the Shade umbrellas ensure they get to enjoy themselves whilst being protected from the harsh summer sun.

Christmas Time

Even though our factory shuts down for a short period over the holiday break, we’ll still be keeping an eye on our emails. If you have any questions or need something urgently, be sure to send an enquiry through our form found here.

We wish all of our clients a wonderful Christmas and safe and happy New Year.

Made to Size!

Not everyone realises, but every single one of our shade umbrellas is hand-made here in Seaford, Victoria. In the final weeks of the warmer weather we thought we would share a couple of stories from our clients who enjoyed their Made in the Shade umbrella in the privacy of their own backyard this past summer.untitled1

Courtyard Comfort

We were approached by this customer with a specific request — to provide the most shade available, whilst clearing the dining table and trees next to the wall. The Size 12 (3.6 metre) octagonal shade umbrella with an antique linen canvas fitted perfectly, allowing our client to raise and lower the umbrella with minimal effort, yet casting a large area of shade. This allows them to enjoy the outdoor dining area without getting burnt by the blasting summer sun.

The Perfect Pool

With a picturesque pool and spa setting next to their home, our clients came to us wanting an area of shade that allows them to supervise their kids when they’re in the pool, as well as providing shade for the spa. Again, sizing constraints meant finding the maximum amount of shade without hitting the 1.2 metre high pool fence or the house. In this case, the Size 9 (2.7 metre) octagonal shade umbrella with a beige canvas provided the perfect compromise, complementing the outdoor area perfectly.

Umbrellas go on a winter holiday!

Winter is well and truly upon us here in Australia, which means we’re starting to see umbrellas arrive into the Made in the Shade factory for refurbishing. This service is offered to all Made in the Shade customers, no matter how many years (or decades!) ago the umbrella was originally purchased.

The whole process has been designed to be as quick and painless as possible for our customers. It’s as easy as dropping us a line, after which you’ll receive a return kit that has everything included. All that’s left for you to do is to slide the plastic bag over the umbrella, stick on pre-written label, and call the phone number for the courier company to schedule a pick-up at your convenience.

Refurbishing includes replacing and repairing any worn or broken components, but we can also retrofit accessories that may not have originally been fitted to your beloved umbrella. You might even want to update the colour of the canvas. The cost of refurbishing is only a fraction of the cost of a new umbrella, yet this simple service will extend its life by many years.

Visit our page on refurbishing by clicking here, email us by clicking here, or simply call us on 03 9785 1236 to have your umbrella refurbished before the warmer weather returns!
